Thanks for your comment. I totally understand what your going through. At my last job as a graphic designer I was having the hardest time coming up with ideas for an ad, because all I did for the longest time was someone else's editing work.

Thank you for this post. I have been needing something like this today. At CornerStone I have been going non stop for nearly a month now that I do the job of three people, and I finally got caught up Friday. Today was amazingly slow and I was needing some inspiration. I hope that this inspires you as well.

Yeah I can understand about the chat room. I think mostly because it's very hard being able to get online with the others and trying to get to know each other. That's kinda why I talked about having us on Twitter, this way we can easily catch up with each other, but not to overdo it.

I really have never used a networking site before, so it has never really been a problem with me. The GDFC chat room has me hooked for a few days, but when I realized that it was taking up too much of my time at work, I quit logging on to the site. The only thing I am really hooked on is checking email. It's a double edged sword in my line of work; it can be a major distraction, but we also get 99% of the information from our clients that way.

I agree. You must do what you need to do if you realize that it truly is wasting valuable time, time you could have with God and other important things.

To me they have always been more of a distraction than anything. So I've had to back off, seriously limit my time using them, and even quit some of the ones I wasted the most time using.

Thanks for the comment. You see, I have searched and searched for a Christian Graphic and Web Designer magazine, but it was hard to come by. In fact, I have yet to find any. I thought this would be a great help for those who are just starting out, in which it could show the potential build up of each person involved in this project.

It is not so much to beat out competition on any sort, but instead to show what God can do through us.

Saw your posting at www.magazinelaunch.com and thought I'd respond on a personal level. I am a Christian and a designer (magazine designer, to be more exact), and as such, I would value an interesting, educational design magazine. However, I do wonder what there will be different between another design magazine (like say Dynamic Graphics magazine) and a Christian-centered publication. Design, by default, is (or I would think should be) religiously neutral unless called for by those in need of a service. Even then, though, the need would be visual-specific and not overall.

In other words, if someone said "Design me a Christian-oriented magazine" that wouldn't mean anything. It's the actual content that would direct the message, and the design needs to reinforce that. But how you reinforce that would be ruled by who your audience/reader is going to be.

So let's say two clients come to me and both say they want a magazine targeted at twenty-year old music lovers, based on other popular publications out there. Are you saying that there will be that much of a difference in how the magazine is designed?

So my interest is piqued. I would like to see how you tackle those issues.
